LAURA HUSSEY

Laura Hussey is a visual artist working primarily in oil and acrylics.

She paints large scale works in which figures of women feature prominently.

From as far back as she can remember she wanted to be an artist.

A resident of New York State and New Yorker by birth, she began her formal art education at Parsons School of Design.  After a year at Parsons, she transferred to Pratt Institute and was awarded a BFA degree in 1967. (In 1980 she received an MA from Hunter College.)

Subsequent to her graduation from Pratt, Laura taught art in the New York City Public School System. For twenty-eight years she worked with Junior High School and Middle School students. During that time, she pursued her passion for painting and continued painting in Greece during the two sabbaticals that she received from the Board of Education. Upon retiring in 2001 she moved to Greece where she lived for ten years and painted full time.

In October of 2011 when she returned to New York City to live, Laura moved to Roosevelt Island and joined RIVAA Gallery. The only gallery on Roosevelt Island, it is a place to meet like-minded artists, exhibit and provide a cultural center for residents of Roosevelt Island, a place with a very diverse population and many professional creatives.

Currently Laura exhibits regularly at RIVAA Gallery, a nonprofit organization and is the Secretary on the Board of Directors. She continues to evolve her vision and develop her painting always finding new possibilities and areas for exploration.
